Thoughts on pregnancy and "massive" babies

So, my due date is officially in three days. No baby yet! But I'm enjoying these last few special days. There has been such an outpouring of support and love from friends and family.

For those who have asked, here are a few thoughts on being pregnant in Singapore as compared to the United States, where our first baby was born.

1. It's hot here. Humid hot. Sticky hot. And when you have no car and walk everywhere, it makes the last month of pregnancy more than a little uncomfortable. Especially when you're forced to carry a sleeping toddler up the hill to your apartment from the train station.

2. Still on the hot topic, my husband has learned to sleep with several blankets because I keep the air-con so high. Sorry sweetheart, but I'm hot!

3. I'm having a second girl. You'd be surprised how many people are "disappointed" for us because we're not having a boy. For the record, we couldn't be more thrilled to be having another girl.

4. I never thought I was a "big" pregnant woman until I moved to Asia. Can't tell you how many comments I've received about the size of my belly. Today, in fact, my doctor told me he's concerned about the size of our baby because the ultrasound said she's measuring over 8 pounds (at full-term). He wants to induce because of a "big baby" and said it would make labor "very difficult" if we waited.

Funny, considering my last baby was nearly 8 pounds (at full term) and came out just fine. Plus, my family also has a history of large kiddos. I told him we were fine waiting a bit to have our "massive" little girl! :)

I love this post! I can totally relate. No I wasn't pregnant but with a new baby and all the stuff I had to haul around I completely understand. And don't you love how they think you are so "big" and don't mind telling you? When we were in Cambodia we were looking at shirts and the lady says "We have BIG size for you!" Great! Thanks lady! haha!

You look great! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on pregnancy in Singapore. Very opposite experiences. People here would find out that you are so far along and say how small you are. Also, March of Dime's new campaign is about going to term and not getting induced early (besides the fact that ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate at weight). I do feel for you on the hot humid thing. I had two pregnancies in the heat of Virginia summer. Uggh! Also, people around here find out that I am having my third boy and seem surprised and ask if I'm going to try for a girl.
I'll look for Olivia on America's Next Top Preschool Model :-)Too cute!

I don't think I knew your blog site until I saw the FB post. Love your blog! I have to agree with all the points you made. I knew I felt miserable but once I wasn't pregnant I realized how miserable I'd felt that last month. The heat and humidity made it so hard. Ben actually slept in the other room because he was so cold. I wanted to scream at everyone who "felt sorry" we were having a second girl. They'd say, "your husband must be so disappointed" and I'd reply, "ACtually he doesn't ever want a boy. We only like girls." just to put them in their place. These pictures are beautiful!! I especially love your little girl sitting up on your belly. I hope 'confinement' is going well and you aren't getting too much unsolicited advice on why you should be home or how to hold your baby. I know they mean well but we were sure glad when Lizzie was a couple months older and people left us alone more. I love seeing Singapore through your eyes. All your cityscape shots are really great!

I totally get what you mean with the gender comments, I hear it all the time. Soooooo annoying and rude, rude, rude.
